Instructions for Authors

Journal of surgery and trauma welcomes articles on all aspects of Trauma and surgery practice, research, education, and policy.  All manuscripts are subject to review by the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Invited Reviewers, and a Statistician when appropriate. Acceptance is based on the originality, significance, and validity of the material presented. The journal's emphasis is on the interdisciplinary approach; Therefore, they can be articles from the fields of anesthesia, Psychology, Nursing, Education, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Toxicology, Health, Microbiology, Laboratory Science, etcetera, which are related to the field of Surgery and Trauma. The most appropriate subject category should be selected when submitting your paper online.
Before submitting your manuscript, please insure that you have carefully considered the following points:


The manuscript should include:
1) Title page (Include complete title of manuscript, authors ‘name and affiliations, Orcid ID for all authors, and address for correspondence with telephone numbers, e-mail, and Fax number.
2) Abstract (up to 300 words subdivided into Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusion)
3) Keywords (minimum 3 and maximum 5 words. Keywords will assist indexers in cross-indexing the article as they are published with the abstract. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of Index Medicus (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh)).
4) Main text including:  a) Introduction, b) Methods, c) Results, d) Discussion, e) Conclusion
5) Acknowledgments (All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgment section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance, and departmental heads who only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.)
6) Funding (Detailed information regarding all financial and material support for the research and work.)
7) Conflict of Interest (Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interests, such as receiving funds or fees by or holding stocks and shares in an organization that may profit or lose through the publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.)
8) References (References should be given in the Vancouver style and numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Citation in the text should be in line with text in parentheses with numbering style. The titles of the journals should be abbreviated according to the style used in the list of Journals Indexed in MEDLINE.)

 The journal publishes the following types of papers:
Original articles: Text should be up to 8000 words; A structured abstract should be 300 words; maximum number of tables/figures should not be more than 6; maximum number of references should not be more than 40. 
Case reports: Text should be up to 4000 words; A abstract should be 100 words; Maximum number tables/figures should not be more than 3; Maximum number of references should not be more than 20. 
Short communication: Text should be up to 4000 words; A structured abstract should be 200 words; Maximum number tables/figures should not be more than 3; Maximum number of references should not be more than 10. 
Letter to Editor: Text should be up to 1000 words; Maximum number of references shouldn’t be more than 15. 
Meta-Analysis & Review articles: Text should be up to 7000 words; A structured or unstructured abstract should be 250 words; Maximum number of tables/figures shouldn’t be more than 8; Maximum number of references shouldn’t be more than 90. 

Proofreading: A computer printout is sent to the corresponding author for proofreading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the Journal office.

Abbreviations and symbols: Use only standard abbre­viations. Avoid using them in the title and ab­stract. The full term for which abbre­viation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a stan­dard unit of measurement.

Ethical guidelines: Ethical considerations must be addressed in the Materials and Methods section. 1) Please state that informed consent was obtained from all human adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors. Include the name of the appropriate institutional review board that approved the project. 2) Indicate in the text that the maintenance and care of experimental animals comply with National Institutes of Health guidelines for the humane use of laboratory animals, or those of your Institute or agency.

Author Contributions: We ask authors to describe what each author contributed, and these contributions to the work may be published at the editor's discretion.

publica­tion charges: There are no charges for publica­tion in this Journal.

Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer-reviewed by at least 3 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editor's decision to accept, reject, or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, it is scheduled for the next available issue.

Complaints Policy of Journal of Surgery and Trauma: This statement applies to the policies, procedures, and actions regarding the complaints received to the Journal. We welcome the complaints and try our best to solve the matters to the satisfaction of the authors. Our managing editors, staff, and editors will take prompt action on every complaint, irrespective of the authors, academicians, or our readers, and make their full effort to solve and satisfy the person. We take minimum time to solve the complaints of dissatisfaction.

  • Any type of unhappiness or dissatisfaction regarding the publication and policies of the journal.
  • The long delay in publication or replies related to the author.
  • The decision of the editorial board member or chief editor regarding the author's manuscripts

  • Research results from misappropriations
  • Complaints regarding the research errors
  • Bias behavior of reviewers

Plagiarism: Journal of surgery and Trauma is committed to publishing the original studies and timely reviews that have neither been published nor are under review elsewhere. J Surg Trauma is powered by CrossCheck™, iThenticate™, and all the submitted manuscripts are subjected to the CrossCheck. Taking all plagiarized materials will incur the “Plagiarism Sanctions”. Submitted manuscripts, which are found to be published or under review elsewhere, will be sustained and experience the “Duplicated Publication Sanctions”. Submitted Manuscripts that are found to include either fabricated or falsified data, including the manipulation of images, will confront the “Data Fabrication/Falsification Sanctions”.
Statement on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Journal of surgery and Trauma guideline is in agreement with the COPE position statement on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in any step of manuscript preparation.

A declaration to acknowledge how authors have used AI tools in their manuscript: Authors could use AI in writing of the manuscript to improve the language and readability, to produce images of the paper, or in the collection and analysis of data. Authors are required to disclose any utilization of AI tools (how and which AI tools have been used) at the end of the manuscript. It is essential that the authors thoroughly review the final content, and they are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript.

Retraction: Based on the COPE guidelines, will consider retracting a publication if:
  • It has clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error).
  • The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication) 
  • It constitutes plagiarism.
  • It reports unethical research.

We expect authors to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • MOOSE guidelines for meta-analysis of observational studies.
  • STARD guidelines for Diagnostic Accuracy.
  • STROBE checklist for observational research.
  • COREQ checklist for qualitative studies.
  • SQUIRE checklist for quality improvement.
  • CARE guidelines for Case report

The Final Checklist:  The authors must ensure that before submitting the manuscript for publication, they have taken care of the following:

  1. The title page should contain the title, name of the author/co-authors, their qualifications, designation & institutions they are affiliated with, and a mailing address for future correspondence, E-mail address, Phone & Fax number.

  2. Abstract in Structured format up to 300 words.

  3. References are mentioned as stated in the Instruction to Authors section.

  4. Tables should be typed on separate pages.

  5. Make sure for Headings of Tables, their numbers, and Captions of illustrations. Don’t repeat the information in tables if it is covered in the text.

  6. Photographs/illustrations along with their captions.

  7. Manuscript in Triplicate

  8. Letter of Undertaking signed by all the authors.

  9. Disclosure regarding the source of funding and conflict of interest if any besides approval of the study from the respective Ethics Committee/Institution Review Board.
