Instructions for Authors

1. Aims and Scope: The “Journal of Surgery and Trauma “is the offi­cial scientific quarterly publication of the Department of General Surgery of Birjand University of medical sciences.   The Journal of Trauma and Surgery aims to open an interdisciplinary forum that allows for the scientific exchange between basic and clinical sciences related to Trauma and any aspect of surgery. The Editorial Board of the Journal of Trauma and Surgery invites authors to submit articles for publication on any aspect of surgery and Trauma.

2. This Journal ac­cepts Original Papers, Review Articles, Case reports, How to Do It, Short Communications, and Let­ters to the Editor in the fields of Surgery and Trauma. Use of the Orcid ID is mandatory for the Corresponding Author. Submitting the article to this journal is free. Copyright and downloading articles from this journal are free. The costs of this Journal are paid by Birjand University of Medical Sciences. Using the Orcid ID is mandatory for all authors. All articles will be reviewed twice for plagiarism. Also, The Journal information is archived in the servers of Birjand University of Medical Sciences and also in the Yektaweb service company.

3. Submission: Submission steps:

C) Filling the article form with the required data

D) Checking the article and submitting related files and comments on the private page

E) Approving the article

4. Types of Articles
A) Original Papers
The number of authors is limited to 10. The basic structure must consist of Abstract, Introduction (including Objective(s)), Subject(s), Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion, and must be limited to 7 printed pages.

B) Case Report
The number of authors is limited to 8. The basic structure must consist of Abstract, Introduction, Case(s), Discussion, and Conclusion, and must be limited to 3 printed pages.

C) How to Do It
The number of authors is limited to 6. This category includes short articles on methods or techniques recommended for surgery. This type of article is limited to 2 printed pages including the title page, abstract, text, up to 8 references, figures with figure legends, and a maximum of 3 keywords.

D) Review Article
The number of authors is limited to 10. The basic structure consists of abstract, text, all references, tables, and figures with legends, and is limited to 8 printed pages.

E) Letter to the Editor
Any view or opinion on an article appearing recently in the Journal is welcome. A letter should not exceed 500 words including references, if necessary. Letters are published at the editor’s discretion and may be edited for clarity.

F) Short Communication
Concise papers that are noteworthy and original will be considered for publication as a Rapid Communication. The maximum length is 1 printed page, including tables and figures. No more than 6 authors can be listed, and an abstract is required.
5. The manuscript should include the Title page; the Ab­stract; Introduction; Ma­terials & Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; Ac­knowl­edge­ment, Funding, Author Contributions, and Ref­erences.
6. The title page: The complete title of the manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, the department or institution to which they are attached, address for correspondence with telephone numbers, e-mail, and Fax number.
7. The Abstract: All original articles must accompany a structured abstract of up to 250 words. It should be structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion followed by 3 to 5 Keywords. Keywords will assist indexers in cross-indexing the article as they are published with the abstract. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of Index Medicus(http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html ). Authors need to be careful that the abstract reflects the content of the article accurately.
8. Introduction: This should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it have data or conclusions of the study.
9. Materials & Methods: This should include the exact method or observation or experiment. If an apparatus is used, its manufacturer’s name and address should be given in parenthesis. If the method is established, give the reference but if the method is new, give enough information so that another author is able to perform it. If a drug is used, its generic name, dose, and route of administration must be given. For patients, age, and sex with mean age ± standard deviation must be given. The statistical method must be mentioned and specify any general computer program used. The Info system used should be clearly mentioned.

Reports of Randomized Clinical Trials should present information on all major study elements, including the protocol, assignment of interventions (methods allocation to treatment groups), and the method of masking (blinding), based on the CONSORT Statement (http://www.consort-statement.org). Iranian articles of this sort should be registered first via (www.irct.ir/ ‎ ) because no RCT articles are accepted unless it contains the officially registered code. 10. Results: It must be presented in the form of text, tables, and illustrations. The contents of the tables should not be repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. Long articles may need subheadings within some sections (especially the Results and Discussion parts) to clarify their contents.
11. Discussion: This should emphasize the present findings and the variations or similarities with other work done in the field by other workers. The detailed data should not be repeated in the discussion again. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis mentioned in the article is true, or false or no conclusions can be derived.

13. Acknowledgment:
All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgment section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance, and departmental head who only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.
14. Tables: In limited numbers should be submitted with the captions placed above. Do not submit tables as pho­tograph. Place explanatory matters in footnotes, not in the heading.
15. Figures: Should be in limited numbers, with high-quality artwork and mounted on separate pages. The cap­tions should be placed below. The same data should not be presented in tables, fig­ures, and text, simultane­ously.
16. References: References should be given in the Vancouver style and numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Citation in the text should be in line with text in parenthesis with Arabic numbering style. The titles of the journals should be abbreviated according to the style used in the list of Journals Indexed in MEDLINE. Write the surname and initials of all authors when there are six or fewer. In the case of seven or more authors, the names of the first six authors followed by “et al.” should be written. The reference to information must be based on the following order:

17. Proofreading: A computer printout is sent to the corresponding author for proofreading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the Journal office.
18. Abbreviations and symbols: Use only standard abbre­viations. Avoid using them in the title and ab­stract. The full term for which an abbre­viation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a stan­dard unit of measurement.
19. The corresponding author: Will be supplied with 2 free issues.
20. Ethical guidelines: Ethical considerations must be addressed in the Materials and Methods section. 1) Please state that informed consent was obtained from all human adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors. Include the name of the appropriate institutional review board that approved the project. 2) Indicate in the text that the maintenance and care of experimental animals comply with National Institutes of Health guidelines for the humane use of laboratory animals, or those of your Institute or agency.
21. Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through the publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
22. Funding: Detailed information regarding all financial and material support for the research and work.
23. Author Contributions: We ask authors to describe what each author contributed, and these contributions to the work may be published at the editor's discretion.

24. Page charges: There are no charges for publica­tion in this Journal.
25. Copyright: The entire contents of the Journal of Surgery & Trauma are protected under international copyrights. This Journal is for your personal non-commercial use. You can tribute, transmit, display, or publish any materials contained in the Journal without the prior written permission of it or the appropriate copyright owner. (Open Access agreement).
26. Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editor's decision to accept, reject, or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, it is scheduled for the next available issue.
27. Disposal of material: Once published, all copies of the manuscript, correspondence, and artwork will be held for 6 months before disposal.
28. Accurate and complete reporting enables readers to fully appraise research, replicate it, and use it.

This statement applies to the policies, procedures, and actions regarding the complaints received to the Journal. We welcome the complaints and try our best to solve the matters to the entire satisfaction of the authors.

Editorial Complaints Policy

Our managing editors, staff, and editors will take prompt action on every complaint, irrespective of the authors, academicians, or our readers, and make their full efforts to solve and satisfy the person. We take minimum time to solve the complaints of dissatisfaction.
 

Plagiarism

J Surg Trauma is committed to publishing the original studies and timely reviews that have neither been published nor are under review elsewhere. J Surg Trauma is powered by CrossCheck™, iThenticate™ and all the submitted manuscripts are subjected to the CrossCheck. Taken all, all plagiarized materials will incur the “Plagiarism Sanctions”. Submitted manuscripts, which are found to be published or under review elsewhere, will be sustained and experience the “Duplicated Publication Sanctions”. Submitted Manuscripts, which are found to include either fabricated or falsified data including the manipulation of images, will confront the “Data Fabrication/Falsification Sanctions”.

Retraction
It has clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error).
The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication) 
It constitutes plagiarism.
It reports unethical research.
